JULY 22 2015, ATLANTA, GEORGIA: EIC will perform an updated Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) at the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) located in Athens, Georgia. The ARS is one of four research agencies that perform research, education and economics missions for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the United States and at global locations. The SEPRL is located on a 32-acre parcel in Athens, Georgia. SEPRL develops scientific solutions to national and international exotic, emerging and endemic poultry viral diseases such as Avian Influenza and Newcastle disease. To meet the increasing demand in this area, ARS is considering renovating and modernizing the current facilities that were built in the 1960's. Following the Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) guidelines, EIC will conduct an EA as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Based on the EA, EIC will develop a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) or recommend preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). It is noteworthy that EIC completed the orginal EA in 2007. Both tasks were authorized under a subcontract agreement with Merrick & Company based in Colorado, USA
